At a pivotal moment for Mexico City’s digital transformation, KIO Data Centers announced the construction of MEX8, a new data center designed to support the growth of the digital economy and strengthen the city’s installed technological capacity.

The new facility represents an investment of $70 million and will add 4 MW of installed capacity in the city. Through this project, KIO Data Centers aims to improve proximity and reduce latency for businesses, technology platforms, and organizations operating critical digital services from Mexico City.

During its construction phase, the project will generate approximately 3,000 direct and indirect jobs, while also promoting technical specialization in areas related to engineering, information technology, and critical infrastructure operations.

Infrastructure to Support Digital Economy Growth

The new data center will help enable services across key sectors that are driving much of the city’s economic dynamism, including e-commerce, fintech, healthcare, education, cybersecurity, logistics, and the public sector. These industries increasingly depend on data, reliable connectivity, and digital platforms capable of operating with high levels of availability.

In this context, MEX8 will integrate into the city’s technology ecosystem as a key enabler of digitalization, strengthening the ability of businesses and organizations to deploy secure and resilient digital services.

Commitment to Sustainability

MEX8 will also incorporate sustainability criteria into its operations. It is estimated that 79% of the energy used will come from renewable sources, with a commitment to increasing this percentage in the coming years as part of the company’s environmental strategy.

A Favorable Environment for Innovation

The construction of this new data center aligns with the Mexico City government’s efforts to position the capital as a hub for investment and innovation, by fostering the integration of talent, technological infrastructure, and a dynamic entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Likewise, the development of robust digital infrastructure is essential for initiatives such as the Digital Government agenda, which aims to streamline processes through digital tools, expand the availability of online services, and strengthen the technological capabilities of the public sector.

By reinforcing mission-critical infrastructure in the capital, MEX8 will help create an environment where innovation can thrive under high standards of availability, security, and resilience, both for public and private initiatives.

Part of KIO Data Centers’ Expansion Strategy

This project is part of KIO Data Centers’ expansion strategy. The company currently operates 15 data centers and maintains a growth plan focused on significantly expanding its infrastructure in the coming years to support the development of the digital economy across the region.

With operations in Mexico, Guatemala, Panama, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic, KIO Data Centers runs one of the most comprehensive interconnection ecosystems in Latin America, enabling companies of all sizes to operate continuously, minimize risk, and leverage infrastructure that meets the most demanding international standards.
