Cancún, Quintana Roo, October 2, 2025 – The DCD LATAM Awards 2025, one of the most prestigious recognitions in the Latin American data center sector, honored Octavio Camarena, CEO of KIO, as Leader of the Year. This award celebrates individuals who are shaping the future of the data center industry in the region.
KIO was also recognized with two additional awards: Mission Critical Tech Innovation (with Lonestar, for their pioneering space-based storage project) and Data Center Operations Team of the Year (for setting the standard in operational excellence and reliability).
Visionary Leadership for Latin America
The Leader of the Year award highlights the recipient’s career trajectory and their contribution to the industry across Latin America. Winners are selected by a panel of professionals, recognizing those who combine strategic vision with strong execution to not only drive technological innovation but also generate a positive impact on the region’s economic growth and competitiveness.
“Being recognized as Leader of the Year at the DCD LATAM Awards in such a competitive industry is an honor. At KIO, we know that digital infrastructure supports operations, fuels innovation, and strengthens connectivity across an entire region. None of this would be possible without the talent and commitment of our team, which is the true reason behind every achievement,” said Octavio Camarena.
KIO’s Regional Impact
With more than 30 years of experience in the sector, Octavio Camarena has left a significant mark on Latin America’s technological evolution, particularly in Mexico. In the 1990s, he pioneered real-time information financial information services, and in the early 2000s, he helped bring the SaaS model to the global market. More recently, his leadership has been key in positioning the country as a benchmark for digital transformation.
Today, KIO operates 15 campuses and has six additional data centers under development across Latin America. Its presence in Mexico, Panama, Colombia, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic has made it one of the region’s leading technology companies driving the digital economy.
Last month, KIO announced a strategic alliance with Lonestar Data Holdings to create one of the first hybrid ecosystems connecting terrestrial and space-based data storage. The initiative reflects Octavio’s vision to position Latin America at the forefront of digital infrastructure.
