KIO Data Centers will invest more than $400 million in CAPEX in the region and quadruple its capacity in Guatemala.

Guatemala City, Guatemala — [September 25, 2025] – KIO Data Centers, a leading digital infrastructure company with an interconnected ecosystem in Mexico, Panama, Colombia, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic, announced today the start of construction of its second data center in Guatemala. This strategic investment, which exceeds $400 million in CAPEX across the region, will quadruple KIO's installed capacity in the country, reinforcing its role in Latin America's digital transformation.

Strengthening Connectivity in Central America

The new facility will provide companies in the region with access to a state-of-the-art, carrier-neutral infrastructure designed to meet the demands of cloud computing and artificial intelligence. It will offer secure and scalable solutions to support customers' innovation and digital transformation processes.

The data center will be located next to the existing KIO GTM1 facility, in the Technology Park (TEC Guatemala Campus), an area recognized for hosting global technology companies. Its strategic location will allow for the automatic expansion of connectivity to the 19 carriers already integrated into the ecosystem, thus strengthening the foundation that GTM1 represents today.

“Our second data center in Guatemala is a testament to KIO's commitment to the Central American market and the success of our clients. By expanding our capacity and investing in AI-ready infrastructure, we are not only meeting current needs but also preparing the region for the future of technology,” said Octavio Camarena, CEO of KIO Data Centers.

Features and Sustainability:

  • Power Capacity (MW): The design includes two initial 500 kW rooms, with the potential to expand to two additional 500 kW rooms, for a total of 2 MW of IT load capacity.
  •
  • Location and Connectivity: It will be on the same campus as GTM1, with direct interconnection that will allow access to 19 network providers.
  • Sustainability and Innovation: It is projected to operate with more than 80% renewable energy, with a target PUE of 1.5. Initial cooling will be through perimeter CRAH units with raised floor airflow, supporting densities of 5 kW, 8 kW, and up to a maximum of 12 kW per cabinet.
  • Certifications: The new site will be built to the highest international standards. KIO will seek Tier III Facility certification, in addition to SSAE18, ISO27001, and PCI-DSS, particularly relevant for clients in the financial sector.

As a regional leader, KIO Data Centers reaffirms its commitment to providing world-class infrastructure that drives businesses in Latin America. This expansion is part of the company's growth strategy to meet the growing demand for secure, scalable, and sustainable data center solutions.
